Out of the Night

Out of the Night

by Jan Valtin

Now supposedly this biography is wildly engrossing in a non-stop adventure sort of way. My new friend Steve talked about this book for about 20 minutes, and not in a "please can I go to bed now?" kind of way, but in a whoa are you sure that really happened?! way. And if he vouches for this, then I do too. Apparently this guy did super crazy stuff like cover himself in butter to wriggle out of porthole in a ship's hold. And then row a boat for days against the current. Jan Valtin of course, not Steve, although I dunno maybe he would too. Anyway Jan was a member of the Communist International, and purposely botched an assassination! He spent a few years in San Quintin, was captured by the Gestapo, escaped an assassination attempt himself. Anyway, this is another in the Nabat book series, which included Sister of the Road and You Can't Win which were both awesome.
