a tween and a leopard leap

Wildhood: The Astounding Connections Between Human and Animal Adolescents

by Barbara Natterson-Horowitz Author and Kathryn Bowers Author

Sometimes we grow into adulthood and forget what it was like to be young—or worse, we feel ashamed of or mock our younger selves and the decisions we made that seem terrible from a distance but made total sense at the time. Anyone who's been a teen, is one now, or lives or works with them will get a lot out of this fascinating and pretty mind-blowing read about the role of the young of all species by an evolutionary biologist and an animal behaviorist. Never condescending, the authors paint a picture of the dangers faced and sometimes created by young people—and also compellingly show that it's exactly the wild-seeming behaviors of youth that move a species and a society forward, creating opportunities for growth and change that adults might never seize on their own.

Is there an abundance of uncute heart-shaped tar pits?

I have one of these bikes. They're very difficult to ride.

The other day I saw someone throw a pretty pink cruiser into the river, and then start dragging it, Chain down through the street. I saved it, but is there a bike abuse hotline or anything? There should be.
