Give Me Back #5

Give Me Back #5

by Various

Give Me Back is a DIY punk music magazine out of Washington DC. Featured in issue #5 are: Pygmy Lush, Dead Friends Kimya Dawson, Next Victim, and painter and album illustrator Sean Mahan. Plus various contributor columns, many of them written by some of our favorite zinesters. These include Keep Loving Keep Fighting, Avow, HPV, and America? zines. Give Me Back also has sections of zine and album reviews. At .50, this is an awesome deal.

“For almost a decade, starting around 1994, HeartattaCK zine was the voice of the politicized emotional hardcore scene. Eventually the editor quit, and some of the staffers started Give Me Back, which has the same layout, font, and format as HAC and is named after a compilation album released by Ebullition records, HAC’s label. The big difference between the two zines is HAC was based in California, while Give Me Back is from D.C., and has more of an East Coast bent. Columns discuss classism and sexual harassment, latent conservatism in Husker Du lyrics, punk politics in a university setting, and the importance of a good night’s sleep. Bands covered include Pygmy Lush, Dead Friends, and Kimya Dawson, and a lot of the reviews are negative, though I did appreciate the fact that, in a review of my zine, I was put on blast for puking everywhere before my band played the last time I was in Gainsville. My bad, Travis.”
