Shortandqueer #6: Now That I'm a Dude
by Kelly Shortandqueer
Kelly reflects on the things that have changed since he became a dude. People think he should be misogynistic and a jerk, he now gets bi-weekly (T) shots and painted his room lavender, and he still prances and tries on thrift store dresses. He has to rethink how he interacts with other people, and the world around him. Like when he's at a protest being pushed into a woman stranger, or snickering over a Playboy book at the bookstore. These actions are perceived differently now by others than they used to be, and that's hard to adjust to. Kelly talks about the first time he gave himself a testosterone shot, and about two vastly different experiences at the Denver std clinic. He also gets hit on at work by a man named Hunter, who proceeds to call him relentlessly. Kelly's best ally at work is a guy named Josh, and Kelly explains why. He also shares some bizarre/offensive interactions from work.
