Antarctica: A History in 100 Objects

by Jean de Pomereu Author and Daniella McCahey Author

Get ready to celebrate the semiquincentennial anniversary of the first crossing into the Antarctic circle. That's right, it's been 250 years already. Where does the time go? Antarctica uses 100 different objects to present a visual history of Antarctica, covering the Terra Incognita phase to Shackleton and Scott, to the modern threat of climate change. Objects included are snow goggles developed first by the Inuit then by Scott, the lifeboat used by Shackleton's crew, a bust of Lenin, and of course a sealing club made from the penis bone of a sperm whale.
