The Indifference of Places
by Carolee Wheeler
Carolee is a born romantic and seasoned traveler, so when she got the chance to go to Prague and Berlin in the wintertime, she pictured snow-covered cobblestones and quaintly mildewy shops. What she found instead were 2 weeks of sickness and exhaustion, and a rethinking of what it means to travel. The Indifference of Places is a handwritten travel diary, with lots of photos and textural elements, placed in a way that is dense yet pleasurable to read. Carolee describes her time trudging from one inexplicably closed shop to another, and drinking coffee to stay warm. It's engaging read, even if her trip itself wasn't so pleasant.
