Clutch #23 / Invincible Summer #20

by Greig Clutch Author and Nicole Georges Author

Recently in our household, I've been having to defend the genre of memoir comic. Worse yet, I admittedly have slipped in my role as a "believer," and have been losing ground left and right. Fortunately, the powerhouses of Greg Means and Nicole Georges make a stronger case for the medium. Perhaps it helps that I've known each of them in real life for the previous decade or more, and that they've been drawing at least as long, but the intersection of characters, plot, and ability to convey emotion and storyline is strong in both of their styles. On top of that, no amount of "uneventful" days seem to stump either of them in this annual serial. Greg nails comedy. Nicole captures what it's like to teach young students and be in awkward social situations. And they both share a strong sense that they are writing for an audience.
