High & Outside #3

High & Outside #3

by Adam Hartnett

High & Outside, Adam Hartnett's baseball lit zine, gets better each issue. Number three is more a novella, two stories and two games stretched across 36 pages (illustrations by R. Scott Rideout). Game one is a little league field drama that's also a love story and an ode to small acts of rebellion. Game two takes place in the Arizona desert and Hartnett's richly detailed, effortless prose brings us into a world of gun-running, bigot cops, Raza pride, and acid-eating. Hartnett's America is a dark, humid, troubled one full of passed joints and tough burnouts, game stats and muscle cars. Here's hoping for a High & Outside book asap.
