More than I should. Mostly we&#8217;re rewatching cartoon favorites (<i>Adventure Time, Bee &amp; Puppycat, Rick &amp; Morty, Gravity Falls<\/i>) with my sister and catching up on\u00a0<i>Flash<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Legion<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Black-ish<\/i>, and\u00a0<i>One Day at a Time<\/i>. Hooray!<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Our movie list:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0<i>Lady Bird<br \/>\n<\/i>2.\u00a0<i>My Friend Dahmer<br \/>\n<\/i>3.\u00a0<i>Edward Scissorhands<br \/>\n<\/i>4.\u00a0<i>Florida Project<br \/>\n<\/i>5.\u00a0<i>Get Out<br \/>\n<\/i>6.\u00a0<i>Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri<\/i><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">We saw\u00a0<i>Lady Bird<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Get Out<\/i>\u00a0twice, so there was definitely some meat for discussion on those bones. And I would add\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt4995790\"><i>The Square<\/i><\/a>. Lots of people in my cinema club HATED it, which made it even sweeter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">TV:\u00a0<i>Stranger<\/i>\u00a0<i>Things<\/i>\u00a0<i>2<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Better Things<\/i>,\u00a0<i>The Dark<\/i>\u00a0(German series),\u00a0<i>Mindhunters<\/i>, and we rewatched favorite cartoons\u00a0<i>Gravity<\/i>\u00a0<i>Falls<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Rick &amp; Morty<\/i>. I want to catch up on\u00a0<i>Black Mirror<\/i>\u00a0too, but the damn kid stays up too late. Or her parents go to bed too early&#8230;<span class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcmsoIns\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Plus the art collective <a href=\"http:\/\/museumca.org\/exhibit\/natures-gift-humans-friends-unknown\">FriendsWithYou<\/a> and their exhibit at the <a href=\"http:\/\/museumca.org\/\">Oakland Museum<\/a> was the best mind-altering experience of 2017 that did not involve drugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Wow, 2017 was way less sucky if I view it ONLY in terms of great movies and books!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Elly<\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Joe and I have been watching\u00a0<i>Parks &amp; Rec<\/i>\u00a0after work every day and laughing SO much. <strong>So needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>&#8220;GOODBYE, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZbUf9mnm5TA\">LITTLE SEBASTIAN<\/a>!&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;<\/em><em>He does BEING A LITTLE HORSE better than ANYBODY!!!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">In media I plan to consume this month: <a href=\"https:\/\/omsi.edu\/calendar\/studio-ghibli-film-retrospective\">OMSI is playing Studio Ghibli movies all month for 7 bucks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">\n<h3 class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Trista<\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">I&#8217;ve been rereading\u00a0<i>The Black Dagger Brotherhood<\/i>\u00a0by J.R. Ward and haven<span class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcmsoIns\">\u2019<\/span>t been watching anything lately, but I\u2019m really looking forward to bingeing\u00a0<i>The End Of The Fucking World<\/i>\u00a0on Netflix<span class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcmsoIns\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Kayla<\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">I currently have no streaming services and just a DVD player, so I\u2019ve been buying cheap TV box sets and am currently enjoying\u00a0<i>Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/i>\u00a0for the first time. I\u2019ve also recently discovered the joy of taking myself to the movies, so I\u2019m more up to date on current films than usual:\u00a0<i>Lady Bird<\/i>\u00a0(loved it as much as every other millennial woman),\u00a0<i>The Disaster Artist<\/i>\u00a0(such great things can come out of badly made things),\u00a0<i>The Last Jedi\u00a0<\/i>(always game for\u00a0<i>Star<\/i>\u00a0<i>Wars<\/i>), and\u00a0<i>The Shape of Water<\/i>\u00a0(liked it but didn\u2019t love it like I wanted too\u2014a little too attached to\u00a0<i>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/i>\u00a0still, I guess).<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">\u00a0I almost always listen to my entire music collection on shuffle, and lately shuffle has given me extra Nine Inch Nails, Sia, and Kanye West.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">I just finished reading\u00a0<i>The Mothers<\/i>\u00a0by Brit Bennett, a year behind everyone else because I\u2019m the cheap kind of bookworm who waits for paperbacks, and I\u2019m so glad I got to start 2018 with such a well-written, hook-in-the-gut book. About to move on to\u00a0<i>The Child in Time<\/i>\u00a0by Ian McEwan, which I expect to also love since I like the author so much I named my new cat after him (well, in all honestly, partially after him, partially after Ewan McGregor).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Troy<\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Music: I&#8217;ve been listening to Marvin Gaye, Elton John&#8217;s &#8220;Honky Chateau&#8221;, and a newer artist called Ariel Pink.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Books: I&#8217;m reading Oxford&#8217;s\u00a0<i>A Very Short Introduction to Black Holes<\/i>\u00a0and a biography of Antonin Artaud (the creator of Theatre of Cruelty) called\u00a0<i>Poet Without Words<\/i>\u00a0by Naomi Greene. I like to read a lot of different stuff at a time so I don&#8217;t get bogged down by one topic, so I&#8217;ve also been reading a collection of Langston Hughes&#8217;s poems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Television:\u00a0<i>The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross<\/i>\u00a0and finally finishing\u00a0<i>Stranger Things<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Film: I haven&#8217;t had a chance to go to a movie theater recently, but I really want to see\u00a0<i>Loving<\/i>\u00a0<i>Vincent<\/i>. Every frame of the animation was painted in his style and the whole film required over 100 oil painters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Theatre: I recently watched a production of Eugene Ionesco&#8217;s\u00a0<i>Victims of Duty<\/i>\u00a0at PSU and it blew my mind. The script encompassed absurd theatre so well and the cast and set refused to allow the incongruous language to strip away meaning and urgency. There&#8217;s so much unnecessary information available for consumption, it often feels like a chore gathering the necessary media. I wish I kept up more with politics and daily news, but it usually just makes me tired or upset and I lose motivation to dig further into the things I really want to know. Instead, I would rather sit back with a cup of coffee and enjoy the soothing rhythms of Langston Hughes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em>~ From &#8220;The Weary Blues&#8221; by Langston Hughes<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">Ahi<\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_-1943099053842135081ydp2de160dcMsoNormal\">My media consumption has been pretty wordy lately: I finally read forgotten fantasy masterpiece\u00a0<i>Lud in the Mist<\/i>\u00a0and totally loved it.\u00a0<i>This Census Taker<\/i>\u00a0by China Mieville is perfect autumn reading as well.
