Sketches

by Young Authors Program Editor and Ashton Harris Author

Miles Hightower is a fourteen-year-old boy who loves art. His mom is his biggest supporter and loves all of his paintings. When she becomes ill, it breaks Miles’s heart. Soon, he finds out she can’t pay the medical bills, so he comes up with a plan. Will he be able to pay for the bills and figure out what's truly important?

This picture book was actually written by an eleven-year-old boy named Ashton Harris. And it was published by Young Authors Publishing—a nonprofit children's book publisher focused on producing diverse and culturally relevant children's books and to use book publishing as a vehicle to economic mobility for our young authors. Royalties from their book sales are deposited into a savings account for each young author to access at 18 to use toward their post-secondary plans.
