This book follows the life of Ayn Rand, the literary and philosophical giant who wrote books such as The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged and The Virtue of Selfishness.  However, it does so in a fairly new and unprecedented way:  through never-before-published interviews with those who knew her at various times in her life, arranged in chronological order.  Though Scott McConnell focuses on the private Ayn Rand in this volume, and has for the most part chosen to include interviews with her family, friends and associates, he covers a broad range of years, contexts, and relationships when pulling older interviews for the book, striving to give his readers the most complete and nuanced view that he can of this complex and influential woman.  From Ayn Rand's youngest sister to the woman who inspired the character of Peter Keating in The Fountainhead, the subjects interviewed offer fresh, candid, affectionate and intriguing insights into this remarkable writer, philosopher and human being.
