Gold

Gold

by Sarah Royal Author

Master storycrafter Sarah Royal is at it again! And this time it's a charming tale of Sarah’s former job buying gold at a mall kiosk for three months. Her boss is a predictably shady character from New Jersey with a financier named Rocco who handles everything in cash out of the Bronx. Of course most of ripping off old ladies from the gold-buying kiosk actually involves watching the ice skaters in the mall below. And Sarah becomes fixated on one in particular when she's not obsessed with the boy who sells her a breakfast sandwich each morning. Gradually throughout the story a greasy heavyset ice skater with a mullet and "awkward grace" gradually becomes the emotional barometer of the staff's struggle to deal with the never-ending tedium of their situation. The whole situation is so peculiar and sketchy that it's not a shocker when they show up for work one day to find the kiosk closed without warning.
