This one was love at first sight down at the Microcosm Kansas HQ. SuperFriends is a collection of photographs and notes/letters found while the zine's editor was working at a thrift store. The result is equal parts hilarious, heartbreakingly sweet, wholesome, trashy, cute, creepy, devastating, life-affirming, and mysterious. You get a real mixed bag here--school photos and love letters, glamour shots and hand-written cries for help. It would be easy to tag this as a "funny" zine but it's so much more than that; over the course of 56 pages a level, well-rounded vision of America develops: births and graduations, freaks and geeks, parties and meals, pets and costumes. It's a very rich and rewarding read, this zine, and it comes much recommended. (Note: each issue of this printing includes one of the photo finds glued to the cover.)
