Just Breathe

In this young adult novel about mental health, chronic illness, and high school romance, author Cammie McGovern paints a picture of two people who realize they can be themselves around each other despite their different backgrounds and ages. Jamie Turner is a sophomore struggling with depression, while David Scheinman is the president of the senior class, popular, but battling cystic fibrosis. They enjoy each other's company, but neither one can bring themselves to tell the other the thing weighing most heavily on their heart, the secret they fear the other discovering. A compelling read for middle school students and older.
