Across Three Decades of Anarchism: A Brief History of the Wooden Shoe
by James G.
James G, a volunteer at the Wooden Shoe
bookstore in Philadelphia writes about the history of the store, from
it's opening in 1976, to it's current incarnation. It's a really
fascinating zine that touches on all kinds of universal themes, like a
store's accessibility to the general community and a store's political
identity. James has collected the stories of long-time collective
members, as well as people who worked there before his time. There are
unexpected perils in running a political bookstore. Who could predict
that some staff members would become Situationalists and flood the
Wooden Shoe because they were "commodifying dissent?" Read all about
the store catching fire, running a store on Anarchist ideals, and
Anarchist study groups!
