Originally from Fargo (ND), Jennifer Baumgardner has been working in NYC publishing since her 1993 unpaid internship at Ms. After that, she wrote feminist features for magazines (Glamour, Teen Vogue, Bust, Dissent, Harper’s Bazaar, Harper’s, The Nation, Elle, New York Times, etc.) and authored books (including Manifesta, Look Both Ways, and Abortion & Life), and frequently appeared on college campuses and talk-shows to discuss the many valences of contemporary feminism. She produced and directed two feature-length documentaries (It Was Rape and I Had an Abortion), produced the national tours of the plays SLUT and Now That We’re Men, and led the Feminist Press and Women’s Review of Books. At this writing, Jennifer runs Dottir Press, which publishes books for all ages and the journal LIBER: A Feminist Review, and is writer-in-residence at Smith College.
