Black Moses: A Novel
by Alain Mabanckou Author
Our hero is an orphan named Tokumisa Nzambe po Mose yamoyindo abotami namboka ya Bakoko—his name means “Let us thank God, the black Moses is born on the lands of the ancestors,” but most people just call him Moses. This funny, adventurous, and pointedly political story follows his adventures growing up in a gang of street kids in the city of Pointe Noir in Congo-Brazzaville in the 1970s. It's a brilliant, funny, epic book that's won a ton of awards and is probably going down in history as a classic—well worth your time!
