Abandoned Ohio: Rustbelt Derelicts

This book is an effort to capture the essence of what was Northeast Ohio and what it’s becoming, understanding its past and looking towards the future. Like many places in the Midwest and the Rustbelt, places like Cleveland and other cities in this area of Ohio faced an exodus of people that left businesses, factories, entire neighborhoods, schools, and many other social placed empty. A local to the area himself, author Jacob Joseph knows this landscape well—familiar with emptiness as a characteristic trait of his home. He grew up knowing that the shadows of these buildings told a tale of a bygone time of more prosperity, of when Cleveland was one of the more populous cities in the nation. A photographer too, Joseph presents the story of his native haunts and homeland, presenting a tale to understand the past of an area that is attempting to revitalize and create new life.
