The Real Cost of Prisons Comix

The goal of this project was to convey the true cost of prisons in a way that was accessible and didn't scare people away. The authors also wanted to deliver facts and figures while still telling the individual stories of those who are incarcerated. The answer was to make a series of comic books, which were then collected to make this book. The three sections are, "Prison Town: Paying the Price, Prisoners of the War on Drugs, and Prisoners of a Hard Life: Women and Their Children." These comics are meant to help us all understand both the short and long term effects of the prison system in the US.
