Narrated by a wayfaring sailor named Ishmael, the story follow's Captain Ahab's obsessive quest to destroy the white whale that ravaged the Pequod on a previous voyage, leaving the Captain with one leg. Moby Dick was inspired by real-life events in the world of nineteenth-century whaling.
