Animals and Psychedelics

by Giorgio Samorini Author

This book argues that the desire to experience altered states of consciousness is found throughout the animal kingdom and is a natural drive shared by every living being. It examines nectar-addicted ants, mushroom loving reindeer, caffeine dependent goats, and countless examples of wild animals and insects consuming and seeking out the psychoactive substances in their natural environments. This book suggests the possibility that consumption of psychedelics, whether by animals or humans, contributes positively to natural evolution by creating new patters of behavior.
