Damage Control: Art and Destruction Since 1950

by Kerry Brougher Author and Russell Ferguson Author

This wide ranging volume showcases destruction as a theme in contemporary art by exploring works of over 40 international artists in media ranging from film, photography, sculpture, performance, and more. Each artist selected used destruction as a motif to respond to their historical moment, sometimes eliciting catharsis, other times as a strategy for creating spectacle, or as a form of protest. It includes works from Andy Warhol, Pipilotto Rist, Yoko Ono, Laurel Nakadate, and many more to create a broad understanding of cultural and artistic changes following World War II in facing the fears of the atomic age, terrorism, and disasters real or imagined.
