Daniel Johnston

The legendary artist and musician, Daniel Johnston, is put front and center in this collection of his drawings. A significant figure in alternative scenes, Johnston inspired musicians and listeners for decades. From his Austin origins in the mid-1980s, where he performed at local venues while working at McDonald’s, to his appearance on MTV and accolades from Kurt Cobain, Johnston’s compositions and raw lyrics earned him lifelong fans.

Art was Johnston’s longest-running passion, predating his interest in music. This publication presents drawings spanning four decades of his production, including many rare and previously unseen pieces. With the support of Johnston’s family and estate, this is the first comprehensive project since his passing. It includes remembrances from his brother, musicians, and artists, and benefits the Hi, How Are You Project, an organization that educates young adults worldwide on mental health through creative content, events, and community programs.
