Burning My Roti: Breaking Barriers as a Queer Indian Woman

This book is part memoir for anyone and part a book of advice addressing women (particularly South Asian women) that explores themes such as self-love, identity, race and ethnicity, expression, mental health, and beauty standards. Each chapter covers a different theme but, as the reader might soon encounter, these topics are intersectional. It shares many aspects of author Sharan Dhaliwal’s own personal journey as well as the stories of different South Asian women living around the world. It looks to create an empathetic understanding and imparting of advice with women of a similar experience—exploring issues that are similar and that will hopefully provide perspective to empathize with.
