A Guide to Medieval Gardens
Medieval gardens are often overlooked in garden history books, but recent research has revealed that they were larger than previously thought. This provides new information and pictures about medieval horticulture, including the theory and practice of medieval horticulture. Medieval gardens were already incorporating many features of later gardens, with limited plant numbers but still similar to modern gardeners' use. However, medieval gardens were deeply rooted in meaning, whether secular or religious, and the additional dimension of symbolism added depth to them.
