Smallholding: A Beginner's Guide to Raising Livestock and Growing Garden Produce

This book introduces smallholding, a practice of growing produce and/or livestock at a small scale, whether that be at the level of growing out of a single raised bed garden or window box or a small field of animals. It will cover what beginners need to know to enjoy brining some self-sufficiency and food production into their lives. It will cover topics such as choosing what to grow or raise with an alphabetically organized guide, whether to buy or rent land; soil health, regeneration, and composting; managing pasture and fruit trees; detailed information on many kinds of animals including necessary licensing. Please note that this book is geared towards beginners but for people that have access to land to some degree—not the best for somebody in the city. Author Georgina Starmer has experience writing and teaching people about self-sufficiency in rural settings, as well as sustainability and growing natural food.
