Nervous Systems: Brain Science in the Early Cold War
The brain, or at least the concept of it, was a fascinating genesis of exploration during the Cold War era. Starting in the 1950s, these times were a testament to our fascination with this organ. It was during these times when we saw things like epilepsy and schizophrenia start to get recognized and treatments being developed; with concepts like memory and perception taking root in the collective. The book will also explore some other things such as the afflictions of the time (such as “brainwashing”) and explore the no-longer-acceptable methods that were used to approach and study the brain. It shares the whole interesting history of this time period for the brain, revealing more about those times and understanding about what we know about the brain today.
