Breathing through the Whole Body: The Buddha's Instructions on Integrating Mind, Body, and Breath

This book explores the Buddha’s words on breathing meditation for healing, wholeness, and understanding his teachings. Author Will Johnson examines the Buddha’s words in the Satipatthana Sutta: “As you breathe in, breathe in through the whole body; as you breathe out, breathe out through the whole body.” He shows how to extend breath awareness beyond the nostrils, lungs, and abdomen to the entire body, inviting natural, responsive movement back into meditation.

Johnson explains how the flow of breath is affected by chronic tensions in the body and mind. He shows that when breath flows through more of the body, it becomes a direct agent of healing, massaging and melting tension. By breathing through the whole body as instructed, the body becomes more comfortable, the mind resolves its addiction to thinking, and meditative practice deepens rapidly, allowing the Buddha’s teachings to be directly glimpsed and revealed.
