While Ireland is famously a staunchly Catholic nation, it was only a few millennia ago that druids were the dominant religious leaders. Because they kept their records on easily burnable wood, and because they ran afoul of the rampaging Romans, we don't know much about them. The question: "Who were the Druids?" has intrigued generations. Where they pious and self-absorbed? Were they cool and relaxed pre-hippes? What did their mystic symbols mean? What was the purpose of those monoliths?
