In Autumn 1937 a rescue mission was carried out in Alaska comissioned by the Russian government to save a group of Russian flyers. Sir Hubert Wilkins led the mission but decided to carry out another experiment at the same time. With the help of Harold Sherman, a student interested in telepathy, the men decided to test the theory. At prearranged times Sir Hubert would send messages to Sherman who would recieve them back in New York.
