Dear Cisgender People: A Guide to Trans Allyship and Empathy

As trans people gain more visibility and their issues are growing in societal awareness, widespread acceptance still varies from place to place, in the US and around the world. This is a memoir and guide that explores the trans experience from the viewpoint of the author’s life as a person with many intersecting marginalized identities. It explores their experiences with coming to terms, coming out, exploring avenues for medical care, the political landscape of their times, and more. Through this narrative, the author makes a call to action with practical advice too on how to be a better ally and how to take action to ensure more equity and safety for trans and gender diverse individuals. Ideally, the cisgender reader of this book will gain tools to be a better ally and the insight and wisdom to better understand the trans experience in it’s commonalities and diversity.
