Muffled

by Jennifer Gennari Author

Amelia deals with her noise sensitivity by wearing noise-canceling headphones, but now that she's old enough to get into the fifth grade, her parents ask her to stop. It only exacerbates the problem that she now must learn to play a musical instrument. In other words, she must herself become a source of noise.  To help her ease into the transition, her father gives her a pair of earmuffs. These don't work as well as her headphones, and Amelia has a tough time at school. But when she meets the goofy extrovert Madge, Amelia starts to enjoy her school year. When they argue and Madge disappears, however, Amelia must confront her fears and venture into the noisy world to find her new friend.
