Hermetic Herbalism: The Art of Extracting Spagyric Essences

by Jean Mavéric Author

This work features the classification of 600 plants -- one of the most robust of its time -- along with an analysis of their astrological natures, elemental qualities, and information surrounding their growth and harvest. Note, this book was written in the early 12th century and its perspective are labeled as spagyric, alchemical ones. Simply put these are procedures that are premodern chemistry. The author works with these procedures explaining how elixirs, tinctures, and other products of alchemical herbalism are made.

Little is known about the author of this occult classic, who wrote and worked under a pseudonym, despite being a prominent figure in French hermetic circles in his time.
