The Crossing of Antarctica: Original Photographs from the Epic Journey That Fulfilled Shackleton's Dream

by George Lowe Author and Huw Lewis-Jones Author

Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition, in which he aimed to complete the first crossing of Antarctica, is perhaps more legendary for its failure than it would have been for its success. It ended in tragic circumstances. It was another 40 years until anyone was able to accomplish that feat, and author and photographer George Lowe, was a part of that successful expedition. The Crossing of Antarctica provides a trove of Lowe's photographs  as well as writings from explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Jonathan Shackleton, Geoff Somers, and many more.
