Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition, hoping to complete the first crossing of Antarctica, is perhaps more legendary for its tragic and and failure than it would have been for its success. It was another 40 years until anyone was able to accomplish that feat, and author and photographer George Lowe was a part of that successful expedition. The Crossing of Antarctica provides a trove of Lowe's original black and white photographs  as well as writings from explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Jonathan Shackleton, Geoff Somers, and many more.
