So Potent Art: The Magic of Shakespeare
by Emily Carding Author and Caitlin Matthews Foreword
This book takes a look at the metaphysical elements in the works of the Shakespeare himself, looking at his plays and sonnets that are steeped in magic and esoteric lore. Some of the things that the author looks into are examples of astrology, alchemy, Hermeticism, herbalism, witchcraft, the fae, ghosts, and the divine. The book also explores how Shakespeare brings out archetypes and characters and story structure. The author, Wiccan practitioner and professional specializing in staging the works of Shakespeare, discusses the influence of esoteric writers of times preceding William such as Ovid and the influence they had over the English writer. Accompanying the analyses, the author includes rituals and exercises to better understand the content she presents but also the works of the Bard.
