Some Unquenchable Desire: Sanskrit Poems of the Buddhist Hermit Bhartrihari
This book presents a selection of works from the Buddhist Indian Poet Bhartrihari, an enigmatic figure whose poetry is beloved by little is known about him. A man of many masks, Bhartrihari explored a wide range of emotions and like themes in his work, including things like love, anger, despair. The translator notes he was a man of a thousand of emotions, ideas, words, and rhythmic syllables, where he describes his internal struggle with love and sexual desire, karma and religion. This poet is celebrated in his native India but this translation brings his art closer to an English speaking, Western audience.
