This book offers a look into the people of ancient Egypt, in many different scopes in their everyday. Author Lionel Casson describes the structure of Egyptian society, from peasants to the pharaoh, the nature of the family, and the role of women, and more. He reviews the many roles, from the lowliest scribes to the architects and engineers who built the pyramids, and examines the work of many different kinds of people, including the artisans and sculptors whose work remains preserved and is appreciated today. Notably, Casson explores religion, including the nature of the gods, the powerful the afterlife, including the history and shift that these underwent over time. This book was originally published in 1975 as The Horizon Book of Daily Life in Ancient Egypt, this revised edition includes a new chapter as well as documentation of the sources and research referenced.
