Bluff City: The Secret Life of Photographer Ernest Withers

Ernest Withers, an iconic photographer, captured iconic images of the 1950s and '60s. This includes Martin Luther King Jr. riding a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, and African-American protestors carrying signs reading "i am a man." Despite his work as an FBI informant, Withers was influenced by political and economic forces. This narrative history explores the complex political and economic forces that led to his seemingly betrayal of the people he photographed, and effectively tells the story of civil rights in Memphis in the 1960s.
