Grow It, Show It!: A Look at Hair from Diane Arbus to TikTok Museum Folkwang
Photography exhibition in a book, readers will encounter the art project that gets down to the follicle of culture. It’s all about hair! It explores the role that hair has played in conveying messages—political, personal, queer, or otherwise cultural—across time a media. The photography selected here puts the mane (or lack thereof) front and center, from head hair to the hair on the rest of the body, exploring how cultural hair is and can be. It draws content from a myriad of sources, from fashion photos to content found on social media and advertising. Alongside the visual art, the book also presents a selection of 10 essays that enumerate ideas on the many dimensions and dimension that can be found in hair.
