The Good Fight

by Shirley Chisholm Author

This book explores the life, times, woman and person of color to campaign for President. Shirley Chisholm first made history doing just this, becoming the black woman elected to congress in 1972, representing the state of New York. ran for president knowing full well the times weren’t ready for her, but felt someone needed to get the ball rolling. She herself chronicles her campaign — from the trials, tribulations, and dog days on the trail, noting the seeds that would grow into the already then destructive aspects of the Democratic Party, her struggles engaging with the Black Community and interfacing with their political beliefs and piety. In the autobiographical narrative, her own voice rings out, her personality and commitment to justice and her country shine through.
