Waiting for Lewis and Clark: The Bicentennial and the Changing West
This book explores the events that occurred in the reenactment of the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition. In documenting these celebratory efforts, readers will learn (just as the participants would witness) about the changes that underwent this area in a short 200 years, not limited to the economic, demographic, and natural changes that would come. Through this exploration, participants of the reenactment would witness thousands of miles of nature, the indigenous tribes, and the living shift that this exploration of the Pacific Northwest would bring. This book documents the three years that author, journalist and historian David Sarasohn encountered in following the Bicentennial and the many national and regional events that were taking place at the time. It documents not only the past and presents, but shifts the gaze towards what’s to come in this region.
