Women of Tarot: An Illustrated History of Divinators Card Readers and Mystics
by Cat Willett Author
This is an illustrated history book laying out a long lineage of Tarot, divination, and cartomancy through the contributions and lives of four women that developed the crafts. Those featured include the beloved Pamela Colman Smith, Marie Anne Lenormand, Rachel Pollack, and Lady Frieda Harris. From its inception in high circles during the Italian Renaissance, women were the main drivers of artistic and divinatory innovation with cards, despite historically being overshadowed and undervalued in being credited for their contributions. Throughout the narrative thread, the book contains a timeline of the development of the Tarot including miniature profiles of other women who work added to the practice as well as practices that developed in parallel, or before, the Tarot itself. Through this book, the reader will gain a more comprehensive look of the development of these metaphysical practices as well as an understanding of historical gender biases.
