Incarceration Nations: A Journey to Justice in Prisons Around the World

This is an account of a researcher’s journey to prisons in nine countries to contrast and give perspective on correctional and incarceration systems around the world. Starting in Africa, taking a tour around the globe and ending in Europe, author Baz Dreisinger interviews inmates and people involved in the systems to gain a sense of people’s experiences in these facilities and institutions and ultimately to take a look at the modern prison industrial complex that America is known for. The author herself is a professor and a founder of the Prison to College pipeline program, well acquainted with stories of inmates around the globe. She’ll encounter a myriad of different programs that will frame just how austere the US prison systems can be and brings in the question of where and how the term “correctional” can apply to these institutions.
