Harvey Milk: No to Homophobia (They Said No)

by Safia Amor Author and Ruth Diver Author

Harvey Milk, a prominent advocate for gay rights, is the subject of this story for young readers ages 10 to 14. Elected as the most famous openly gay official in the US, Milk fought against discrimination based on sexual orientation. In the 1970s, homosexuality was illegal, and homophobia was prevalent. Tragically, Milk and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated by a homophobic colleague just ten months after their election. Milk’s death symbolized the struggles of gays in America and solidified his legacy as a champion for gay rights.
