When Marilyn Met the Queen

In July 1956, Marilyn Monroe came to London with her husband, Arthur Miller, to film The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. Although she yearned to enjoy her time in England, living in a large mansion made her feel uncomfortable due to being watched by staff selling stories to the press. Filming did not go well, and tensions grew between Marilyn and Olivier. Despite facing scrutiny from the British media, she found solace in bike rides and small kindnesses from the public, and developed a fascination with Queen Elizabeth, whom she eventually met.
