Redemption: Martin Luther King Jr.'s Last 31 Hours

by Joseph Rosenbloom Author

This book recounts the final thirty-one hours and twenty-eight minutes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s life. Exhausted from a demanding schedule, he faced criticism and dissent within the civil rights movement. A federal court injunction barred him from marching in Memphis. Amidst mounting threats, he feared imminent violence. On the stormy night of April 3, 1968, King delivered the “Mountaintop Speech,” an eloquent plea for workers’ rights and economic justice, showcasing his oratorical prowess.

This book, based on dozens of interviews with Memphis event participants, recently released Atlanta archives documents, and compelling photos, reveals untold aspects of the story. It includes a never-reported Memphis Police Department security lapse for King, financial and logistical dilemmas, and emotional and marital pressures on King.
