A Black Queer History of the United States

This is a book that explores Black history that employs an analytic perspective centering the experiences and lives of queer people within the community—exploring their history in the US from slavery to the present day. From their initial presence in this continent, gender expression and sexuality have been a part of Black people’s lives that have been overlooked—even in more modern times where these dynamics have gained social acceptance. The book will detail their lives and contributions, their struggle, fights, bittersweet joys, and celebrating their victories. Readers will learn about notable figures and potentially learn more about historical figures they thought they knew about, but had their queerness omitted in more traditional historical narratives. People will learn about the history of marginalization, the struggle and fight for rights,  and the progression towards (and sometimes away from) civil rights.
