Aging with a Disability
by Bryan J. Kemp Author
This book provides clinicians with a guide to the care and treatment of individuals aging with disabilities. The book is divided into five parts. The first part focuses on the perspective of the person with a disability and their family. The second part delves into the physiological and functional changes that people experience as they grow older and how these changes impact their quality of life and the requirements of caregivers. The third part discusses treatment considerations, including maintaining employment and managing pain and fatigue. The fourth part focuses on specific conditions such as spinal cord injury, polio, cerebral palsy, and developmental disabilities like mental retardation.
The concluding section presents research needs and discusses policy issues for consideration. Notably, most three chapters are written by authors who have disabilities.
