The Tricky Art of Co-Existing: How to Behave Decently No Matter What Life Throws Your Way
by Sandi Toksvig Author
Manners are essentially a code of behavior you adhere to no matter who is around and even if nobody is watching. This is not an "etiquette" book, with all the class snobbery that word brings to mind. Instead, it's a book about how to be a decent human being. And the advice is for the most part completely solid and sometimes funny. The book opens with some big-picture exhortations about overcoming our biases, considering the impact our behavior has on other people, and never assuming. Then we drill down into more specific advice for every place and situation—from family meals to public bathrooms to getting off an airplane to breastfeeding. It also offers advice for living with roommates, dating, divorcing, and dealing with pets and kids.
