The Jook

The Jook

by Gary Phillips

Skill, fame, desire, and the ability to jook, out maneuvering one's opponents, are at play with one another in The Jook. A skilled football player, Zelmont Raines, falls prey to drugs and sex, and must work to dig himself out of the rut he has fallen into. His ability to do so, however, is complicated when he meets Wilma Wells, his team's lawyer. This book plays with themes of desire and self-control from the perspective of a unique character.
